Last post, I shared some of the less glamorous aspects of life on the boat—the parts we don’t always talk about. Today, I want to focus on the good things. These are the moments that help us choose every day to keep sailing. While these moments often go undocumented—either because the camera isn’t the right tool or because the emotions are too deep to capture on video—they are the ones that truly make this journey worthwhile.
🙂 Every sail, storm, or new anchorage brings growth. Even after two years on the water, we still have so much to learn, and it keeps us humble and challenged.
🥳 There’s a feeling of victory with every repair—big or small—that we manage to complete. Even if it’s just a bolt (because no matter how complicated the fix, there’s always that one bolt that refuses to budge).
😁 The excitement when we finally reach a place we’ve been planning to visit for months is indescribable.
😲 The amazement that we can notice temperature changes of just a few degrees.
😎 The sense of independence from being self-sufficient for months without relying on the mainland, except for fresh food and fuel. Electricity, water, laundry, and even fish are usually available to us.
🤓 Hearing the kids read in Hebrew and English, solve math problems, or talk about things we’ve learned along the way—whether it’s geography or animals—fills us with pride. We taught them all of that!
😅 There’s relief when the kids land safely in the water with every jump, and joy in watching them do it over and over again, never stopping laughing.
🤗 The power of a hug during tough moments of pain or frustration with school is incredible. And small words like "I’m proud of you" and "I love you" can change everything.
😏 There’s a deep sense of self-fulfillment when I finish a successful work call, and the client mentions how much they enjoy seeing the sunset behind me.
😍 The love when the kids come for a morning cuddle in bed before the day starts, or just in the middle of the day because they feel like it, is priceless.
😌 Lying under the open sky on the trampoline, learning new constellations, and watching shooting stars brings a unique sense of peace.
😊 There’s immense satisfaction in simplicity. I never thought that making bread or seeing how few clothes I have in the closet would excite me like this.
🤩 Looking back at all we’ve gone through in the last two years and realizing it all happened because we chose to follow our hearts brings a deep sense of success.
We’ve learned to recognize these feelings, to appreciate them and our successes, and we celebrate and mark each event to ensure we remember it and learn from it.
Every morning when we wake up and choose to continue our journey, we know that the good outweighs the not-so-good.
