Do you know that feeling? The moment you lift your head from the screen and… boom! A falling star blazes across the sky, or the sunset floods the horizon with unreal shades of red and purple. These are the moments when nature stops us in our tracks, reminding us of the simple, awe-inspiring beauty all around.
There are so many wonders in this world, and it’s easy to miss them in our daily routines. We take so much for granted, assuming it will always be there. But in reality, everything is fleeting – one moment, it’s all right in front of your eyes, and the next, it’s gone.
Our journey as a sailing family has brought us face-to-face with these natural wonders. Being on the water, we feel the pull of the tides and the guidance of the winds. We’re small parts of a vast, intricate system. We didn’t create the sunsets or sunrises; we’re just lucky to witness them. This lifestyle has made us feel closer to nature than ever, with nothing but the sea between us and the world’s untouched beauty.
But here’s the truth: you don’t need to sail to experience these moments. Anyone can find them, wherever they are. It’s about pausing and opening yourself to the beauty that surrounds you, even if it’s right outside your front door.
That said, even I’m not immune to getting lost in the endless scroll of my phone. But every now and then, nature has a way of breaking through the distractions, calling me back. It might be a school of fish glowing in the water beside us, the quiet stillness of the sea at night, or the vibrant colors of the northern lights. These moments are reminders of why we chose this life – a life filled with nature’s wonders, big and small.
So every now and then, I remind myself to lift my head, breathe deeply, and take it all in. Because these moments are gifts, and each one is a reminder of how magical our world truly is.
