We are the Malishev family, adventurers at heart who've turned the vast seas into their playground.

Embarking from the Mediterranean, our sails have kissed the horizons of 25 countries, weaving through the Caribbean and the Bahamas all the way to the US East Coast.

Along this voyage, we've discovered beautiful beaches and diverse cultures, and we found new depths in our family bond.

Our voyage is a testament to the magic of pursuing dreams, embracing both the ones we've long had and those we've stumbled upon unexpectedly.

Somewhere between Georgetown, SC, and Beaufort, NC, we spotted a massive "wall" of weather heading straight for us.

We quickly changed course to dodge the thunderstorm, shut down and disconnected all electronics except for one engine, and put on our life vests—just in case. Being in a thunderstorm alone at sea, the odds are not in your favor, and it’s a situation you hope to avoid at all costs.

Thankfully, we managed to dodge the storm and ended the day with a breathtaking sunset. Moments like these remind us just how powerful and unpredictable the ocean can be.

It’s hard to believe our time in the US has come to an end.
What an unforgettable adventure it turned out to be!

We explored 21 states, and even when the boat stayed still, we never stopped moving, soaking up every moment of this incredible journey. This was undoubtedly the busiest chapter of our adventure so far.

Over 3,400 miles by boat along the East Coast, from Florida’s sunshine to Maine’s foggy beauty, including a serene detour through the Chesapeake Bay. Every anchor brought a new wonder - from mooring next to the Statue of Liberty to exploring charming villages in Long Island and Maine.

More than 3,000 miles on three epic road trips: Florida's warmth, the route from New York to Chicago and Niagara Falls (Canada!), and a breathtaking drive through California’s iconic landscapes.

These past months gifted us with countless unforgettable moments. We celebrated three birthdays. We explored skateparks and playgrounds with endless energy and indulged in way too much ice cream (if that’s even possible! 🍦). From discovering stunning forests, cliffs, and sunsets over cornfields, to meeting lifelong friends and welcoming strangers who made us feel truly at home, every day brought new memories to cherish.

Before this journey, everything we knew about the US was from movies. Other sailing families left us unsure of what to expect, but America exceeded every expectation. It’s a land where you can be whatever you dare to dream and live wherever you choose - by the beach, in the city, or on a ranch. It’s all yours to explore and choose.

Thank you, USA, for the memories, the inspiration, and the adventure of a lifetime. You reminded us that endless possibilities aren’t just a dream—they’re real and waiting for anyone who dares to grab them.

Homeschooling is one of the most rewarding parts of our journey, but let me be honest - it’s also one of the hardest. The frustration builds when you hit that tipping point, where everything shifts from good vibes to total chaos.

Each of our boys has these moments - different times, different triggers. And as parents, we’ve had to learn how to cope with each one. Some days, we get it right. Other days, we mess it all up. We’ve learned (and are still learning) that fighting through the meltdown doesn’t work. Forcing it only leaves us angry and regretful.

And yet, through the frustration, there’s growth. They’re learning how to handle things when something doesn’t go as easily as they’re used to. And we’re learning how to meet them where they are - sometimes with a change of scenery, sometimes with a reset.

This morning started great. We set up school in the marina lounge (also the laundry room - multitasking parents for the win). But then Bar hit his limit, and we had to pause and regroup.

But on our Florida road trip, we treated ourselves to a couple of nights in a hotel, and wow, what a treat! Breakfast, we didn’t have to cook or clean up after, felt like such a luxury.

City Life, Boat Style
When we’re in a city, things work a little differently:
The mooring field is packed and conveniently close to downtown, making it easy to get around. And the dinghy docks are our parking spot when we go ashore. 🅿️

But there are some new things to get used to:
⛵ Being “exposed” to streets and sidewalks.
⛵ No more peeing off the back of the boat.
⛵ No more walking around the boat in our underwear.
⛵ No more dinghy speeding. It’s a no-wake zone!
⛵ Life jackets for the boys in the dinghy are a must.

Adjusting to city life after the freedom of the sea has its quirks, but hey, it’s all part of the adventure.

I received a lot of encouragement on my previous post about my professional growth during our journey, especially regarding the break I took and how empowering it is to realize that things take time and don't happen overnight.

The biggest change for me on this journey was allowing myself to step back from perfection and forgive myself for letting things go.
I do less, but I do it well and find things I can compromise on.

In our previous lives, we always chased after getting everything done. Waking up early (which is a challenge for me), getting ready, organizing, leaving on time, not getting upset, supporting, accomplishing, and still smiling when we were late. Every task added to the daily load.

When I tried to combine work and being with the kids, the kids lost out. Waiting for a response, a message, a call—something that often felt more challenging and engaging than playing another game with them. It's hard to admit, but it's true. It wasn't fair to them to have a mom who was only half present or to me, unable to disconnect and full of guilt.

We all live like this, even when we try to convince ourselves otherwise. The old habits, sense of responsibility, and desire to fulfill every task create a cycle that's hard to escape.

This is where forgiveness comes in. Understanding that we can't do everything all the time and that it's okay to say "no."

Life on the boat, with the kids 24/7, forced us to live differently, and today I can't imagine another way. If I'm with the kids at the beach, the phone is off. If I'm in a meeting, the kids will be on screens because I need quiet, and if I need an hour alone—everyone gets Xbox time.

We can't sail, work, parent, cook, fish, clean, and fix the boat all at once. Prioritizing is a must.

The difference now is that we chose to prioritize our kids and family when we moved onto the boat. We chose where to invest our energy and knowing it's okay to let go when needed.

Things will happen, even if slower, but we'll be able to enjoy the present and realize that every moment of connection is a moment to cherish.

I received a lot of encouragement on my previous post about my professional growth during our journey, especially regarding the break I took and how empowering it is to realize that things take time and don't happen overnight.

The biggest change for me on this journey was allowing myself to step back from perfection and forgive myself for letting things go.
I do less, but I do it well and find things I can compromise on.

In our previous lives, we always chased after getting everything done. Waking up early (which is a challenge for me), getting ready, organizing, leaving on time, not getting upset, supporting, accomplishing, and still smiling when we were late. Every task added to the daily load.

When I tried to combine work and being with the kids, the kids lost out. Waiting for a response, a message, a call—something that often felt more challenging and engaging than playing another game with them. It's hard to admit, but it's true. It wasn't fair to them to have a mom who was only half present or to me, unable to disconnect and full of guilt.

We all live like this, even when we try to convince ourselves otherwise. The old habits, sense of responsibility, and desire to fulfill every task create a cycle that's hard to escape.

This is where forgiveness comes in. Understanding that we can't do everything all the time and that it's okay to say "no."

Life on the boat, with the kids 24/7, forced us to live differently, and today I can't imagine another way. If I'm with the kids at the beach, the phone is off. If I'm in a meeting, the kids will be on screens because I need quiet, and if I need an hour alone—everyone gets Xbox time.

We can't sail, work, parent, cook, fish, clean, and fix the boat all at once. Prioritizing is a must.

The difference now is that we chose to prioritize our kids and family when we moved onto the boat. We chose where to invest our energy and knowing it's okay to let go when needed.

Things will happen, even if slower, but we'll be able to enjoy the present and realize that every moment of connection is a moment to cherish.

I don’t often share about my professional journey, but this post is all about it.

In my “previous life,” I was a product manager, fully immersed in the startup world – working long hours and flying abroad every quarter.

When we started this journey, I took a nine-month break – the longest in my life. During that time, I discovered something new: I love helping others. Sharing knowledge, passing on insights, and seeing how what I’ve learned can make a difference.

From that moment, I promised myself to rebuild my professional path around what I love: whispering, supporting, and helping others succeed.

Being a product manager is about understanding people – their desires, needs, and limitations. It’s about reading market winds, recognizing constraints and opportunities, and starting small, iterating: improving, fixing, and adding as you go.

It’s about understanding that success is a team effort – a product manager’s achievements are measured by their team's success.

And you don’t lead with force – you lead with trust, humility, and empowerment. You listen, stay attuned to the environment, and remain vulnerable, willing to make mistakes and learn from them.

With these principles, I started my journey. I began small, adding bit by bit, experimenting, learning, and adjusting along the way.

For the past year and a half, I’ve been working with OKR QuickStart, an amazing company based in Australia. Together, we’ve collaborated with clients worldwide. Our meetings cross continents, cultures, accents, and unusual time zones – and it’s all online.

In the past six months, I added a new layer to my journey with the guidance of one of the most inspiring people I’ve met – someone I’m proud to call my mentor. He’s not on Instagram, but every product manager knows his name: Marty Cagan.

I traveled to Chicago for one of his workshops – to learn how the best companies in the world build things so I can become a better coach for my clients.

It was my first business trip and another step forward.
I know where I want this journey to take me, and I’m loving the ride.

There’s something so soft about autumn here in the U.S.
The brown and red leaves carpet the ground, creating a quiet embrace that makes everything feel gentler, slower.
It’s the kind of season that calls for warm socks, a cozy blanket, and a steaming cup of hot chocolate. I can picture myself sitting outside, soaking in the crisp air while the world feels like it’s in the middle of a deep, colorful exhale.

I’ve always been a winter person, someone who finds comfort in chilly days and the stillness they bring. But day to day, I’m a beach person – sand between my toes, salty air, and endless horizons. So, to experience this beautiful autumn, to walk through the leaves, hear them crunch underfoot, have playful leaf fights with the kids, and let the season wrap itself around us, feels absolutely magical.

How lucky are we to live this moment, this in-between of change, and witness how autumn transforms the landscape so gracefully?!

It’s a gentle reminder that times of change, with all their uncertainty and whirlwind of possibilities, can be stunningly beautiful. And by accepting change and embracing it instead of resisting it, we open ourselves to truly enjoying the journey as it unfolds.

The Corsica Storm - Derecho in the Med. Follow the 5un Ep. 07

On August 18, 2022, we were anchored in Porto, Corsica. We had no idea a Derecho was coming toward us. A Derecho is a storm, similar to a hurricane or a tornado, only in a straight line. No swirling. It ran from Majorca, Manorca, through Corsica to mainland Europe: Italy, Austria, Slovenia, and the Czech Republic, causing great damage and 12 deaths. Some weather forecasts anticipated the storm in a way, but most of them completely missed it, making it invisible if you didn't check the right model. In Corsica alone, the winds increased to 225 km/h (140 mph), 5 people died, and more than 125 water rescues were required. Luckily, we were not one of them. This is our story of the Corsica Storm. .
